• South Cheshire ABC is a community boxing club which aims to develop real opportunity for youngsters in Crewe through the discipline, structure and growth which comes from boxing. We started in 2014 with our Head Coach - Nathan Clarke and two classes a week and have now grown to eight England Boxing trained coaches, overflowing Mini-Boxer, Junior and Adult sections and boxers winning at National Championships. This video was taken in 2016 but gives a taste of the club today.

    Our club in action

  • Our Club Sessions

    Club Opening times

  • Mini Boxers - Ages 5 to 10

Our Mini Boxers run on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:00. Open to ages from 5 yrs to 10 yrs these non-contact sessions are a terrific introduction to boxing and keeping fit. Our coaches are all qualified as England Boxing Leader or above and several joined the club as mini boxers when they were younger and now coach our mini boxer sessions as well as competing in National Competitions. They were all trained by our Head Coach - Nathan Clarke so have a really clear understanding of our clubs boxing ethos, both in coaching and in practice.

    Junior - Ages 11 to 16

Our Junior Sessions follow on from the Mini-Boxer Sessions on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00. For ages from 11 to 16, these sessions are aimed at all abilities and aspirations so it's great to come along and keep fit but you can also be introduced to sparring and contact. This is completely optional and always directly supervised by our coaching team and with protective headguards and gumshields. Our club philosophy which our Head Coach Nathan Clarke promotes is "First learn not to get hit" and the rest flows from there.

    Adults - Ages 16 +

Our Adult sessions are for 16 years and over with invitation for Juniors who want to box at a higher level to be included. Also on Monday and Wednesday evening with sessions starting at 7:00 and finishing around 8:15. Once again, contact is completely optional and we have a large group who enjoy our boxing classes as a way to keep fit. You can set your own pace or use the motivation that comes from our coaches to really push yourself - completely up to you.

    Competition Boxers

Friday nights from 5:30 to 7:30 are dedicated to our competition boxers who also come to the Monday & Wednesday sessions. This is for boxers of all ages who are "carded" by England Boxing and have passed medicals to allow them to compete in amateur boxing competitions. This includes the clubs shows, and travelling to other clubs to compete on their shows as well as entering national competitions such as the ABA English championships. South Cheshire have a great record with several regional champions regularly joining the sessions.

    Open session - all groups

Saturday morning from 10:00 to 12:30 is our open session for any Junior and above boxers to join in and use the facilities provided. This is not a structured class but gives a great opportunity to work one-to-one with our coaches to develop skills learned during the week.

    Ladies Classes

We have three England Qualified Female coaches and they are strong believers that boxing is for everyone. We therefore don't have a dedicated ladies section and everyone joins in the general classes. We have a number of girls and ladies who just keep fit all the way to competing at National level.

  • Our Coaches

    Nathan Clarke - Head Coach

Nathan started boxing at the age of 13 at his local boxing club. At 17 Nathan moved into the Martial Arts side of Combat Sport and then turned Professional at Boxing when he was 21, boxing for Fight Factory in Stoke. Nathan has had 8 professional contests, winning 5, losing 2 and drawing 1. Nathan’s biggest fight was when he fought Conor Benn at the MEN Arena on a Matchroom Boxing night, live on Sky Sports and Show Case in America.

Nathan has a number of different qualifications under his belt:

    • Level 1 & 2 England Boxing Coach
    • 10th Khan Muay Thai
    • Purple Belt CSP (Complete Self Protection)
    • Strength & Conditioning Boxing Science.

As a coach Nathan has had great success developing 3 national champions to date. One of these champions is Nathan Gorman who is now unbeaten in the professional ranks of heavyweight boxing and currently holds the WBC International Championship. Nathan has also coached 6 Merseyside and Cheshire Champions and many Box Cup Winners.

He started the Club in 2013 with his close friend and coach Joe Riley. Nathan has built the club up since then and he has now developed 11 coaches for the club going from one class with less than 10 boxers at the beginning to several classes and age groups and often 40 boxers in each. One of his biggest accomplishment is that a number of these coaches started as young (and not so young) boxers at the club and he has taught and developed them first as boxers and now as coaches. This has meant that Nathans boxing philosophy, standards and techniques are being retained and passed on throughout the whole coaching team. Nathan has a clear philosophy about how his boxers should perform both in and out of the ring and has developed a “South Cheshire” style of boxer which others in the boxing world can clearly recognise.

Simon Jones - Assistant Head Coach & Club Matchmaker

Simon joined the Team 2015. He started his career in Combat Sport as a Kick Boxer in 1988 and had number of contests for Nantwich Kick Boxing. Simon joined the Army in 1996 and had success winning Major Honours. Light Middleweight B.O.A.R Champion & The Royal Logistics Heavyweight Champion 2000. Simon is a coach who has been developed by South Cheshire Head Coach taking his experience from the Army and teaching him the ABA standards. Simon is also the Clubs match maker.

    Chris Morris (Mogs) - Coach

Chris came to the club after finishing semi-pro football aged 35 playing for a number of clubs including Nantwich Town, Winsford, Biddulph Vics and Whitchurch Alport. After a couple of years training in MMA, Chris decided to concentrate on boxing, qualifying along with Simon in his Level 1 & 2 England Boxing badges. Chris has also done a huge amount of work raising grant and other funding for the club as well as developing and nurturing partnership relations with a number of our financial supporters. Chris is also dad to Junior Boxer Taylor. (Chris is on the right with Nigel Benn.)

    Darren Stanley - Coach

    Matt Gallimore - Coach

    Luke Took - Coach

Luke started training in martial arts at the age of 12 where he competed up to 16 before joining the Cheshire Regiment of the British Army in 1998. This is where he started boxing winning a lightweight title in the year 2000. Luke carried on boxing after the army, representing Orme ABC in Staffordshire then joining South Cheshire ABC in 2013 where he boxed for our club before joining the coaching team.

    Joe Riley - Coach

    Hayley Bevan -Coach

Hayley began Thai boxing before making the move to boxing at South Cheshire ABC in 2016. She still competes regularly as well as becoming an England Boxing coach. Hayley's son also trains with the Mini-Boxers and is really looking forward to being able to compete when he's old enough with Hayley in his corner.

    Jess Wrighton - Coach

    Aaron Blackshaw - Coach

    Henry Rogerson - Mini-Boxer & Juniors Coach
